Genesis and Oedipus Rex Essay

As though peering into a glass of time, Genesis and Oedipus Rex appeared to have made me make a trip back through acknowledgment to cause me to reconsider how I comprehended these early messages. At first, the two writings appear to share nothing for all intents and purpose. Beginning, as the term suggests, discusses the start, concentrating on the creation fantasy and continuing to the tales about the main individuals of the world comprehensive of its family history and progress towards turning into a country. Oedipus Rex, then again, presents a bit of a King’s life including his insights, fears, dynamic and activities. One is by all accounts exclusively about Theology and the other about governmental issues. I understood later however that both are very of a greater picture †the way of life of Western Civilization. Women’s job in Western Civilization is commonly restricted to home, maternal and family life. Sarai, for example, has the privilege to order her home. This was appeared in the part where Abraham told Sarai â€Å"Your house cleaner is in your capacity. Do to her whatever you please. † (Gen. 16: 6). Correspondingly, Jocasta’s entrance in Oedipus began as a way of placing request in the house. During this time, Creon and Oedipus were contending a result of Creon’s assumptive cases on the hardship of their property and the arrangements. Women’s job as spouse was stressed in Sarai’s failure to consider. Focusing on this, represents another perspective †the significance of youngsters in a family. It is obvious that ladies should bear youngsters for their spouses and maybe it is this disaster that pushed Sarai to propose for Abraham to take Hagar, her house cleaner, and have kids through her. There were likewise various examples where Abraham asked God when Sarai would imagine a youngster demonstrating further how significant kids are for the â€Å"order of things† as well as for the family. On the off chance that you’ll likewise follow, when Hagar, pregnant of Ishmael, was sent away by Sarai, a blessed messenger prompted Hagar to return. Afterward, when Abraham sent both Hagar and Ishmael away, God didn't just give and help Hagar and Ishmael endure the desert however as vowed to Abraham, favored Ishmael’s ages. God’s support in this image further states the estimation of youngsters in â€Å"His structure. † For Jocasta, another part of a woman’s job as spouse was featured. Her’s centers around edifying, enabling and offering encourage to her significant other at the hour of outrageous uncertainty. This was appeared at the time Oedipus was stressed and before †when she surrendered the infant Oedipus †to forestall her husband’s destiny. Ladies likewise have a job in legislative issues, however this is restricted to their emblematic purposes. Jocasta is sovereign to both King Lauis and Oedipus, representing her nonstop dedication to her territory, to fill in as mother of the realm, as opposed to co-ruler. Much similarly as Sarai is called â€Å"mother of all nations,† for she is the spouse of Abraham, and from her, will spring the roots and ages to come. Men, then again, have a basic job in Western Civilization. During this time, society was profoundly male centric and men, through the characters, Abraham and Oedipus, reflect the way of life of their occasions, yet in addition, the musings and examples of ethical quality and humankind. First occasion was the manner by which men treats ladies. Twice inside the example text of Genesis did Abraham present Sarai as his sister because of a paranoid fear of being murdered due to Sarai’s magnificence. From this we can expect that one’s spouse can be asserted by murdering her better half, that a lady can be â€Å"won† or â€Å"taken† forcibly, else the event as well as rampancy of double-crossing connections. Maybe it is consequently that infidelity is known as a wrongdoing and that any individual who submits such will get disaster †simply like what befell the place where there is Egypt and the place where there is Gerar when the rulers took Sarai as their sovereign/spouse. It is somewhat extraordinary in Oedipus in light of the fact that here, it is delineated that ladies can be passed starting with one lord then onto the next, for Jocasta was the dead Lauis sovereign and was sovereign to Oedipus, the current ruler. In spite of the fact that there are different components included, reality remains that ladies can be passed on, as it seems fit. Second occasion was the means by which men treats their country. In the account of Sodom and Gommorah, Abraham considered the government assistance of the individuals that he took the fortitude to in fact, deal with Yahweh †that the city must have some integrity left in it, that it can't be devastated with the reliable in it. From fifty individuals, he had the option to request that God save Sodom if there are 10 steadfast individuals †and miserable to state, there wasn’t. Oedipus type of reparation with regards to the government assistance of his territory is in a manner like this. He has decided to daze and exile himself from the land which he has done treachery to †murdering its ruler and laying down with his own mom. Third occurrence is standing out men does their choices. As pioneers, both Abraham and Oedipus think about politeness and reason before following up on it. Abraham, for example, considered the way that his and Lot’s herders can't live respectively thus chose to isolate with his sibling so Lot and his herders can seek after their own future as he goes to the other way. Much similarly when Oedipus went up against Creon and disregarding his doubts and uncertainty, put aside his feelings of dread and dispassionately sought after the issue Creon let him know. He has called upon all the connections referenced upon him, the slave, shepherd and delivery person and deliberately asked insights regarding what occurred. He didn't infuse thoughts yet rather, took the realities they offer and associated the occasions in a string, utilized his explanation and procured the reality of the situation †regardless of whether it implies the acknowledgment of his feelings of dread. It is very recognizable however that the fatalistic and monotheistic conviction patters are apparent in the two writings. Abraham follows the desire of Yahweh while Oedipus respects Apollo. Both likewise partake in expiation of missteps, Jocasta’s self destruction and Oedipus’ choice to daze and exile himself is a model. Offering penances is another. There is one contrast however. In Genesis, Abraham can converse with Yahweh and He answers him legitimately. Apollo has no voice in Oedipus aside from through the mouths of the prophet or the diviners. Discussion with divinities was conceivable in Genesis while it isn't in Oedipus. Accentuation on human instinct is additionally clear in the two writings. Abraham, albeit a man of confidence, has consistently been allowed to pick on what to do. Such with laying down with Hagar and tolerating the outcomes of his activities, such with isolating with Lot and bartering with Yahweh to spare Sodom and Gommorah, such with voyaging and proceeding onward forward to different grounds, regardless of whether it implies professing to be a sibling to Sarai, or in the event that it implies giving up his lone child for his God. Much similarly as Oedipus, who has been played by destiny, indeed, however wittingly, tuned in and sought after truth as it was told by â€Å"witnesses† †living verifications of people’s activities. He has conceded that it was his own choice †not moved by any God †to strike Lauis for he was at a furious disillusionment, much similarly as it his own choice to daze and expel himself from his property †to rebuff himself for his wrongdoing and for causing his realm, mishap for his activities or his revile. Additionally, Jocasta’s activity to end it all, as discipline of her missteps. A basic truth and conviction conveyed across times, even today, that such appraisal or audit can make me think like this†¦ great just brings forth great. What's more, at long last, regardless of how incomprehensible, or how human and improbable, Justice wins. Time instructs spirits that meander fruitless of minutes however that of voices from the past read through the lips of creatures like me. References: Catholic Biblical Association of America (1971). A Little INSPIRation

A Little INSPIRation In the midst of a whirlwind-like semester I promise to eventually blog about, I had the chance to connect to Vaishnavi at one of the  Burchard Scholars  dinners and we got to talking about INSPIRE, a cool project that might interest several high school students. The details follow below. *** Q: Tell me a little about yourself. A: I’m Vaishnavi, a junior in Course 9 â€" Brain and Cognitive Sciences. Outside of classes and UROPs (that’s MIT-speak for “undergraduate research”), I work with a team of awesome undergraduates to organize the annual MIT INSPIRE high school research competition in the humanities, arts and social sciences. Q: What is MIT INSPIRE? A: INSPIRE is the first and only national high school competition that focuses entirely on original research in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. It’s completely undergraduate-run, but produced with support from faculty, staff and alumni in the MIT School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences and other MIT departments. High school participants submit original research in one of 13 broad categories â€" including philosophy, literature, econ, poli sci and othersâ€" for consideration and the top 100 finalists are invited to MIT’s campus in April 2016 to meet expert judges and compete for some serious national recognition and prizes. In our first year (2015), we awarded over $48,000 in prizes. Q: So if a student is interested in INSPIRE, how should they proceed? A: To start, all you really need is a little curiosity and enthusiasm for a topic. This could be anything from a song you heard on the radio to a national issue raised during the Republican or Democratic primaries, a neat culture you heard about in your history class, or even a book you recently read. Come up with a new question that you want to explore or develop a new way to approach a question that’s already been posed before. The sky’s the limit. Find a mentor to bounce off ideas and formulate a method to approach your question. Once you’ve gotten started, submit your Intent to Participate by December 30, 2015 and get ready to submit your final research abstract, report, and other forms in January. INSPIRE judging round. Photo credit: K. Toy Q: What do you like most about MIT? A: One of the things I really love about MIT is our creative and innovative culture. Here, we “think big” about new ideas and possibilities, and are able to actualize them thanks to the many different resources available for undergraduates. Another aspect I like is one of MIT’s hidden gems a stellar humanities, arts and social sciences program. It was recently named among the top 3 universities worldwide in these areas. Q: What advice do you have for applicants to MIT? A: As cliché as it sounds, follow your passions and seek opportunities in areas that interest you. But at the same time, don’t forget to try out new things and demonstrate that you are well rounded. Try looking at things from another perspective: the policy side of that science topic you’re investigating, or the societal effects of a technology you’re immersed in. It will broaden your thinking and give you something unique to talk about in your application and interviews. And who knows, it could lead to an award-winning INSPIRE project, if you’d like to earn some recognition on the side!

The Clutter Family Roles In Truman Capotes In Cold Blood

The nonfiction novel, In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, takes place in the small and quiet town of Holcomb, Kansas. Capote takes the reader through the sequence of events that transpired before, during, and after the members of the Clutter family are unexpectedly murdered on November 15, 1959. He describes in detail the background of each of the main characters, which helps to clarify the motives of Richard Hickock and Perry Smith as they murder the Clutters. He illustrates how a positive or negative influence of an individual’s environment, lifestyle, and occasionally family can impact them into adulthood. These influences can determine the role that a person plays in society whether it is becoming a contributing member of society or†¦show more content†¦Herb is a devout Methodist and actively participates in his church congregation. Nancy even spends her last day alive giving piano and baking lesson to children from school. To the village of Holcomb, the Clutters may have been considered an innocent and charitable family. However, this lifestyle that Smith and Hickock envy is what motivates them to murder the Clutters. Perry Smith has a family that is contradictory to the Clutters, which leads to him becoming one of the murderers. He is born to Florence and John, who were part of a traveling rodeo. After they retired from performing and settled down, his mother becomes an alcoholic and files for divorce with his father because he is abusive. At age 13, Smith’s mother chokes on her own vomit and dies, as a result, he is sent to a Catholic orphanage. After residing with nuns, who beat him and emotionally scared him, he develops â€Å"an aversion to nuns. And God. And religion† (Capote 132). Genetic Engineering And Its Effects On Cancer Essay

Introduction Cancer, one of the most feared and deadliest diseases that affects millions of people around the world, may finally have a cure. Thanks to modern biotechnology, diseases that used to kill people, like smallpox, measles, and even HIV may actually hold the key to killing cancer. The ability for a virus to infect cancer cells has been documented as early as the 1900s. Recently scientists have been able to manipulate the genetic structure of viruses so we can use them to treat cancer safely. This recent breakthrough is known as genetic engineering. Genetic engineering is a new technology that allows scientists to reprogram viruses to infect and destroy cancer cells. Genetically modified viruses prove to be advantageous in treating cancer and illustrates a promising and effective treatment for cancer patients because it does not affect healthy tissues. Virotherapy This emerging field in medicine is called Virotherapy, which explores the use of viruses to kill cancer. Viruses that kill cancer are termed oncolytic virus. These viruses are classified as either a natural oncolytic virus or a genetically modified virus (GM virus). In order for a virus to be considered an oncolytic virus it must be capable of replication and selective infection of tumor cells (Wong 79). Oncolytic viruses use many means to kill cancer cells, either directly, or through immune mechanisms which destroy the infected tumor cells (Alberts 2002). Trip To The Porno Shop Essay Example For Students

Trip To The Porno Shop Essay Before going into Phase II, I didnt really feel anything out of the ordinary. I have been in that store a few times, and dont find it offensive in any way. Myonly feeling about being in that store is a sense of sexual overload on the senses. There is so much sexually oriented material there that it is almost overwhelming. I drove there with three friends from my house, who are also in the HDFS240 class. Their feelings on the store were generally similar to mine. We allagreed, however, that it is more uncomfortable to go in alone than in a group. So,with the four of us, the uncomfortable feelings were eased. The first item I selected was a movie, titled, Ready to Drop: Volume 7. The film was priced at $10.95. The box displayed pictures of pregnant women ina variety of sexual acts. The photos appeared to be of low quality, and the sceneryand actors in the pictures also seemed to be in the more inexpensive range. Iselected this item because it grabbed my attention. It was something out of theordinary, as movies go, so I decided I should take a look at it. My second item was a product called the Super Suction Penis Pump. Thebox was very plain, with only a small block of text describing how a man couldwatch his cock grow to unbelievable dimensions! The product is designed toincrease the size of the penis in both length and thickness. This product was onsale for $21.95, and was an open-box special, which was interesting in itself. Ichose this one because it was sitting on top of a pile of movies, and I knocked itonto the floor. So, I figured that, since I already had to pick it up, Id just wr iteabout it. Finally, my favorite choice was The Famous Erotic Love Piggie. Thisitem can be purchased for a mere $12.95, and provides hours of Farm fun. Thepicture on the front showed a drawing of a pig wearing a bikini. This box was alsovery plain, and didnt give any description or photo of the product. We could onlyguess what amazing craftsmanship was invested in that $12.95 piggie. I chose thisitem because it was the most entertaining item there. It seemed to be the only oneof its kind, so it grabbed my attention. After having gone into the store, I didnt feel any different that before. Inside, I felt comfortable looking around through the products because so many ofthem are so outlandish and humorous. It is almost like a store of gag gifts andjokes. The trip was fun and entertaining, but due to prior experience there, did notmake any significant impact on my views or feelings on adult shops. Category: Miscellaneous

Communicating Effectively with Others The Conceptual Issue Effective communication with others is really important for running business. The main idea of communicating effectively is to provide others with accurate and specific information without beating about the bush. One of the best examples for using this strategy is when you have to tell the partner over the telephone the benefits of working with you. You have mo more than a minute, otherwise the partner will become bored. This management strategy comprises two main features, active listening and concise talking to the point.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Application to the Personal Job Experience It is important to remember that using effective communication may help solve numerous problems. Once I was too busy and had to talk to some employees about a new task. I did not spend much time on it being sure that everything is understandable, but when the work was completed in a wrong way, I had to communicate with those employees, one more time, answer their questions and provide deep explanation. This time the communication was effective and the task wa s done perfectly. Evaluation of its Effect upon Performance, Satisfaction, Absenteeism, and/or Turnover Effective communication influences the performance greatly. The ability to communicate effectively gives an opportunity to understand the task properly and get satisfaction from the work. Moreover, effective communication helps reduce to absenteeism minimum and get the highest satisfaction from the work. It is natural that when the task is completely understood and while providing it the communication is possible, which helps to complete it, the turnover increases. A Plan for Improving on This Competency There are some specific guidelines which may help improve this competency. First of all, a person should learn to listen actively as talking to the point is easier. There are some specific steps one should learn to improve the effectiveness of communication and active listening in particular. First, one should show the readiness for listening. Second, he/she should to respond to t he said using different words. Third, it is important to ask questions which should be open-ended. Fourth, one should be ready to clarify some information even if it is understandable somehow. Results of the Plan Thus, following these steps one will be able to improve listening skills and add to the effective communication which is really important, especially in the business world if one wants to achieve set goals. Having learnt to listen to colleagues actively, the communication between you and another employee may result in your favor. This may be crucial in negotiations when huge sum of money is put at stake and you need to win. Motivating and Inspiring Others The Conceptual Issue Motivation is really crucial in the modern world of business. If one works on the basis of motivation and inspiration, it is a guarantee of success. It is a human nature to do something better if he/she is either motivated or inspired. Salary is not the thing which may inspire as people got used to get money for their job, but additional payment may be a motivation. When a person does something he/she likes or even fond of, it is inspiration which helps to get the better results faster and with more successful outcome. Application to the Personal Job Experience Working in the company, I understood that employees who are neither inspired nor motivated with a new task do not hurry to complete the task. It is also obvious that the work done without the forces mentioned above will be completed as faster as possible without attention to the quality.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Managing Time and Stress specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Considering personal working experience, I can say that when I was given a task which interested me, it was unimportant for me whether additional motivation was provided or not. It was interesting for me and nothing else mattered. But, when the task was boring, I needed some speci fic motivation to compete it in time and quality. Evaluation of its Effect upon Performance, Satisfaction, Absenteeism, and/or Turnover Motivation and inspiration influence performance greatly. The higher motivation/inspiration, the better the work is going to be done. The satisfaction from the work under the conditions mentioned above is great. Motivation/inspiration also helps avoid absenteeism and increase turnover as when the work which brings pleasure is done, one may complete more tasks without being tired too much. It should be mentioned that it does not matter whether financial motivation is provided or other one, the performance and turnover still remain at high level. A Plan for Improving on this Competency Before getting down to improving the motivation and inspiration others, it is important to understand the core model when this strategy works. On the one hand, the motivation should be target and desired. This means that employees should be motivated with the offer. On the other hand, employees should be assured that the reward will be provided as soon as the task is checked and the positive results are received. Thus, the motivation/inspiration facilities should become constant and the employees would be sure that their work would be awarded. Results of the Plan If employees are motivated/inspired constantly, the work is always completed with the best outcomes. The company productivity increases and the environment in the company is the healthy and positive. Resolving Conflicts with Others The Conceptual Issue Working in any company, communicating with different people, it is impossible to avoid conflicts. So many men so many minds, they say. In this situation it is important to remain calm and to be able to solve the conflict as faster as it is possible. Conflicts at the workplace ruin the atmosphere and do not make it possible to continue performing tasks. Thus, it is really important to be able to resolve conflicts at the workplace and do it i nvisible for other employees.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Application to the Personal Job Experience Working at the company, I faced the problem that many people wanted to provide their personal opinion without noticing others, sometimes even better thoughts. The work of our Human Resource manager was perfect in such cases. She tried to solve the problem immediately by means of providing the active communication strategy expressing her personal ideas about what was wrong. If this did not work, she involved the whole department into communication and tried to encourage everybody to consider the problem and offer some reasonable resolving. In this case, the problem stopped to be the problem anymore and became the task which had to be done. Evaluation of its Effect upon Performance, Satisfaction, Absenteeism, and/or Turnover Possessing the techniques for conflict resolving, the performance at the work place should improve as time is not spent on unnecessary quarrels. Employees are always satisfied when the environment at the workplace is posi tive and healthy. The absence of the conflicts or their fast resolving adds to this effect. Taking into account the situation from the personal experience, it is impossible to ignore the problem when everybody is involved into its resolving. So, effective conflicts resolving effects absenteeism making it impossible. Still, some time is usually spent on resolving the conflict, so the turnover is reduced. A Plan for Improving on this Competency Here are some steps each person should complete to be able to resolve conflicts successfully or to improve this competency. The conflict should never be ignored. Then right time and location should be chosen. The parties should state the rules according to which they are going to provide their conversations. The central rule should be devoted to the fact that the parties do not leave until the problem is resolved. Parties should be accommodating. People should not try to skip the problem and start the talk off in a different direction. Result s of the Plan One of the main outcomes of the plan offered above is that the problem will be resolved. Moreover, the parties of the conflict will think later about the necessity to spend time on it and will try to avoid conflicts getting down to negotiations as soon as possible. Executing the Leadership Function The Conceptual Issue Leadership is important in modern life. Some people got used to push others, while others cannot imagine anything creative and prefer to be pushed. Executing the leadership function means that a person takes not only the controlling function, but also the performing one. In other words, the leader bears the whole responsibility about the outcome of the affair. It is also important to mention that two leaders cannot coexist without conflicts, especially if they have opposite ideas about how the problem should be solved and which activities should be provided. Application to the Personal Job Experience I have never tried to be a leader, still, I always hav e personal opinion and do not miss a chance to express it. Working in the company, I have never tried to become a leader in a number of reasons. The main reason is that I am scared of responsibility. I should better perform my task and would not respond for others. Once I was absolutely dissatisfied with one project and I made a decision to execute the leadership function. I was pleased as I managed to organize the work in the way I saw it and people trusted my opinion and did everything to reach the common goal, complete the task. I understood that if the work is properly organized, I should not worry about the outcome as everything is going to be perfect. Evaluation of Its Effect upon Performance, Satisfaction, Absenteeism, and/or Turnover When one person controls the whole process, it is easier to follow the performance. Leaders usually consider who work better and award them to encourage others to the same results. This influences performance positively. Moreover, one of the mai n responsibilities of the leader is to organize the work in such a way that everybody was satisfied. Absenteeism is impossible in this case as the leader follows the process and can correct the task if necessary. The turnover of working tasks is also improved as people know what they have to do. A Plan for Improving on This Competency One of the best ways to improve on this competency is to attend the lectures or training devoted to leadership. Still, the first task people should perform is to consider who have leadership inclinations at the workplace. Planned training at the workplace is a good opportunity to have better performing results and improve the competency within each employee. Results of the Plan If the plan is provided on the basis of the recommendations mentioned above, the company will have a number of leaders which may substitute each other while performing different tasks. Moreover, those who are aware of the specific of executing leadership functions are going to f ollow the instructions of others more thoroughly. 5 Great Ways to Solve Problems and Spark Your Creativity

5 Great Ways to Solve Problems and Spark Your Creativity A few weeks ago I was working on the paperback version of How to Write a KILLER LinkedIn Profile, and I was feeling stuck. Here was my problem: The e-book version contains hundreds of hyperlinks leading to various references, web pages and articles- and a mere click of a mouse makes it easy to go to the linked material. The names of pages are nice and neat, with hyperlinks hidden to the viewer. I had not considered how I would handle this situation in a hard copy of the book! How was I to present all these pages and hyperlinks in print? My book designer had simply made titles of articles blue. But without a link, these would be useless to the reader. The next option, inserting long URLs into the body of the text, would be distracting and messy. I asked my assistant to put her head together with the book designer and figure out something. And I went for a swim. Light Bulb Moment†¦ In the shower after my swim, a light bulb went off: Why not use footnotes for all the URLs in the book? We could then create an appendix with all the links. That way there would not be distracting links in the body of the book, and any readers industrious enough could go to the appendix and explore the â€Å"extras†! I called my assistant as soon as I was dry enough to convey my idea. Problem solved! Perhaps I would have thought of this solution without going for my swim. But it’s not an infrequent occurrence for me to have creative sparks ignite when doing â€Å"mindless† laps in the pool, or shortly thereafter. I’ve come up with some great â€Å"roasts† for family occasions while losing track of what lap I’m on! It’s Not a Random Occurrence! Last summer, I was at a week-long leadership training and a similar thing happened. I knew there was a talent show at the end of the week but I had no idea what, if anything, I would contribute to it. In the middle of the week, I left campus for a day to take care of some business commitments. On the drive home, my creative juices started flowing and a skit to the music of â€Å"Summer Lovin’† from Grease was born. That skit turned into the most talked-about event of the training. These two incidents point to some ideas about what sparks creativity. Not all of us have teams of people to speak and collaborate with to generate new ideas. So we’re left to structure our lives in a way that creativity can arise. There are some simple ways to minimize the chance of getting stuck in a rut. 5 Ways to Solve Problems and Spark Creativity Exercise. Do something to get into your body and out of your default brain! For me, swimming and yoga provide welcome time to let my mind drift and do its magic. For some, it’s walking or running. Find the exercise that works best for you! Travel. If you can, take your business on the road for a week (or even a year!). A change of scenery can have a surprising impact on your thought process. I personally notice my energy waning if I stay in one place for too long, and I am fortunate to be able to carry my business with me. Meditate. Quieting the mind for even 10 minutes a day can produce new thoughts you never expected at random times of the day. This worked for me during the brief time I had a daily meditation practice! Read. I’ll tell you a secret: Many of my blog ideas come from reading Success Magazine – including this one! What’s your focus? Where would you like a spark of creativity? Find something related to that topic of area to read! Do something different. Something as simple as brushing your teeth with your non-dominant hand can interrupt your brain waves and give you new ideas! So can speaking in a different language or driving a new route to work! Do you have other tried and true ways to unstick yourself when you’re stuck, to generate new ideas and get moving on an idea or project? Please share them below- or share how you have used the 5 methods above to create results in your life!

How is Sex education important Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

How is Sex education important - Research Paper Example Education related to sex is for mounting youthful proficiencies so that they formulate knowledgeable preferences about their activities, and sense assurance and familiarity about performing on these options. It is extensively established that individuals possess right to be educated about their body and also should be imparted sex education as it is a method that aids them to safeguard and protect self in opposition to mistreatment, utilization, unplanned pregnancies, or from sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), HIV and AIDS. Apart from family atmosphere and preaching, school atmosphere also plays an essential role in educating students about sexuality. Some schools educate their students about the subject as they are well equipped and feel it is necessary for the child development, while other schools never like to handle the subject (Kirby, 1999; Ketterman, 2007). According to Wight and Abraham (2000), it is necessary to extend sex education on the basis of theoretical knowledge, but it is difficult to translate research based conclusions drawn regarding imparting sex education into acceptable, replicable and potentially effective classroom lessons require high precision and care to create an awareness in the classroom culture. Sex education is required to develop a healthy approach as well as to afford the budding young minds with a vision and an attitude so that the mistakes that were done in the past could not be repeated. The mistake encompassed the birth of AIDS and STDs; had sex education would have gained magnitude in the past and concern about educating individuals would have been started a few decades earlier, prevailing dreaded diseases could have been prevented (Ketterman, 2007; Bryan, 1996). To culminate this, sex education is gaining prevalence. According to Eyre and Eyre (1999), essentially, children must be educated in an explicit manner about the sex and sexuality and it is always better to start early as soon as the child is three years of a ge, by the time child is eight, awareness generated about many issues is imperative in life. This enables the child to grasp the situations, happenings going around and act accordingly to protect self and peers. Sexuality begins at birth. As soon as the child is born everyone likes to know- "a boy or a girl?" Children are classified by their gender and thus they learn to discriminate between the two sexes quite earlier in their lives (Chrisman, 2002). It is observed that toddlers frequently touch themselves when they are unclothed, as in bath tub or otherwise, as they do not possess modesty. The reaction of parents is important here, as it informs them about the acceptance of their deeds. Reprimand of any kind conveys a worst message rather acknowledgment about their action is necessary. Parents must explain the secrecy and confidentiality of doings (Kids Health). The basic motive of imparting sex education is to diminish the jeopardy and probability of unconstructive incidence due to sexual behaviour or out of curiosity, culminating to accidental pregnancies or victimizing oneself with HIV or STDs. Appropriate knowledge will not only minimize such incidence but also provide positive experience about their sexuality, safeguarding children and young population in an effective manner. Sex education is important as families have their own standards for nudity and privacy. It is directly imparted to

Beliefs of Malcolm X

Beliefs of Malcolm X Cheyanne Ratliff 1. When Malcolm X believes when he receives an X is that it is an ex form of himself. He elaborated by saying that it is supposed to [replace] the white slave master name of little which some blue-eyed devil named Little had imposed on my paternal forebears, (MX, 229). His statement is correct because many of the African Americans in America were brought over from Africa by Europeans. This means that it was not the identity of his oppressor, but of the black man himself. Although they used this excuse, there was a bit of a social privilege to not being truly African. On page 4, Malcolm X states that [m]ost Negro parents in those days would almost instinctively treat any lighter children better than they did the darker ones. It came directly from the slavery tradition that the mulatto, because he was visibly nearer to white, was therefore better, (MX, 4-5). What this suggests is the impact the white slave owners have had on the ancestors of blacks and how they have been raised to thin k like that. It means that those who are lighter tend to have a higher social privilege because of how slave owners implied that if you were lighter, you were whiter. 2. Malcolm describes how the black people are tired of the treatment of colored men and women by the police, also known as police brutality. In MX, he states that [i]t is a miracle that 22 million black people have not risen up against their oppressors-in which they would have been justified by all moral criteria, and even by the democratic tradition, (MX, 251). This states that Malcolm is surprised about how the black Americans have not risen up yet against their oppressors the police. Although it seems as if the police have been nothing but brutal towards black Americans, that does not always seem to be the case. In the chapter Black Muslims, Malcolm states that [l]aw agencies once had scoffed at our nation as black crackpots; now they took special pains to safeguard against some white crackpots causing any incidents or accidents, (MX, 252). This supports the rebuttal because it shows how although the police always seemed more hostile and aggressive towards the black people of that time, they eventually managed to see that black people needed protection too, just as the white man needed. 3. What Malcolm X is doing is he is finding the differences between segregation and separation. On page 250 of MX, he describes segregation as when your life and liberty are controlled, regulated, by someone else, (MX, 251) and separation as that which is done voluntarily, by two equals- for the good of both, (MX, 251). The difference that Malcolm X is pointing out is that with segregation, you are regulated by somebody else, compared to separation, which is when you are regulated by yourself. This conveys the wishes that many black Americans have because many of them wish to not be controlled by the white man. Although they were segregated, they still had control over their own lives. Theoretically, they let the white man back them into a corner, which then calls for them to attack and lash back in order to protect themselves and/or their community. In the book Things Fall Apart, Okonkwo let the white Christian missionaries back him into a corner, which then caused him to lash out a nd kill himself in order to protect himself and his community. Theoretically, if they had refused the push of the white man towards that corner, they could have easily been on a faster track to equality. 4. This statement is valid because it shows how the black Americans have never been free to actually act for themselves in the sense of controlling their own communities. Similar to the last question, they have been backed into a corner. He states that separation is when that which is done voluntarily, by two equals- for the good of both, (MX, 251). Because the blacks are not able to completely separate from the white people, they cannot reach their full potential and power. This relates to when a dog is abused by its owner, then they can never really function by their own means. 5. Malcom X is describing how the black hustler in the ghetto jungles has to survive. By saying the ghetto hustler is the most dangerous black man in America (MX, 318), he is talking from experience AND what he has observed. On page 173, Malcolm X describes his observations as scary because it had taught [him] in a very few minutes to have a whole lot of respect for the human combustion that is packed among the hustlers and their young admirers who live in the ghettoes where the Northern white man has sealed-off the Negro-away from whites-for a hundred years, (MX, 318-319). What quotation suggests is that these young people who admire the hustlers, those who are considered the most dangerous black [men] in America (MX, 318) are considered that because they have the most influence upon the youth, which is the next generation. This means that because the black hustlers depend on the youth, this is how they survive and keep that black hustler legacy going. Although this may suggest that this is where all of their power comes from in order to survive, it is not. Earlier in the book, Malcom X describes his own accord of how it works; I was a true hustler-uneducated, unskilled at anything honorable, and I considered myself nervy and cunning enough to live by my own wits, exploiting any prey that presented itself, (MX, 111). This quote from himself suggests that he lived by his own wits because he thought he was all that, and he became very popular among the ranks. What this quote makes people realize is that power comes from within, and that when you create an image of yourself, that power inside of you is what causes that image to come true. 6. What Malcolm X is differentiating between is the stereotype of how a white man acts like, and what a black man acts like. What this suggests is that black people, in order to be accepted, they depend upon the stereotype of the white man and decide to try and follow that to be accepted. An example of this is when Malcolm X states that [t]he only difference was that the ones in Boston had been brainwashed even more thoroughly. They prided themselves on being incomparably more cultured, cultivated, dignified, and better off than their black brethren down in the ghetto, which was no further away than you could throw a rock. Under pitiful misapprehension that it would make then better, these Hill Negroes were breaking their backs trying to imitate white people, (MX, 42). This suggests that black people will try to imitate white people in order to seem more appealing to them. The quotation describes how societal pressures were even more severe than they are today. Before coming to a con clusion though, we must consider how the white man did not always intentionally discriminate. On page 174 of MX, he describes the cause of the black mans condition was because of the white mans society [being] responsible for the black mans condition in this wilderness of North America. This quotation says that although there is social pressures from the white man, his society implements even more social pressures than the white man does himself. It suggests that the black community itself is more socially pressuring than the white mans community is at times. A connection to this is from the book The Pearl by John Steinbeck, when the richer society who lived inside the gate had societal pressures pushed upon those who live outside the wall, those who lived outside of the wall developed even stronger, negative societal pressure that basically said if you dont live inside the wall youre unsuccessful. This eventually pushed Kino to go crazy, just because he wanted money to get into the inside of the wall. Those snooty black brethren who stuck their noses up at their brothers and sisters in the ghettoes were like Kino, and they drove themselves crazy trying to fit into an ideal placed in their heads by themselves and those around them. 7. To begin with, Hajj means pilgrimage. In order for Malcolm X and all separationists (in MXs eyes) to achieve their goal, they must remain united. In the book, Malcolm X says that for the black man in America the only solution is complete separation from the white man, (MX, 250) and that Islam is the hope for justice and equality in the world we must build tomorrow, (MX, 241). Malcolm X here basically says that we must separate from the white men and all join Islam in order to complete their destined pilgrimage. Although this seems like the perfect solution, this is far from it. This was similar to when Hitler believed that there was only one pure race and that they should all be separated to be perfect, just as Malcolm X believed that there was only one way that black people could be perfect, and that was separated under the state of Islam. This is a one right way mindset that could potentially be dangerous if it is not handled properly. 8. America is seem as a major place full of discrimination in all parts of the world. To support this, Malcolm X states that they called them [h]ate teachers violence seekersblack racists black fascists anti-Christian possibly communist inspired, (MX, 243). This all started because of a few racist whites had collected footage and lied about the intentions of Malcolm X and Mr. Muhammad. This is a prime example of how the Americans perceived them beause they were not only black, but also Muslim. Although this produced hate and more discrimination, it made black Muslims stronger and more powerful. This is similar to how people saw the Baton Rouge bus boycott of 1953 as a bad thing, but really it made those boycotting even stronger and more powerful. It did that because it eventually made people realize hey maybe this is wrong. Although this is not the case in MX, the amount of attention is similar to the amount pf attention that the bus boycott got in 1953. 9. When Malcolm X suggests when he says thinking internally is that the American power structure does not want them to realize how powerful they could be. Malcolm X describes this behavior as selfish when he says he loves himself so much that he is startled if he discovers that his victims dont share his vainglorious self-opinion, (MX 243). What this means is that if the white man pressures black people into believing one thing about themselves, and the black people do not agree, then the white man would lash out, almost like an angry toddler. A connection to this is similar to when Donald Trump tries to convince people of one thing, and when they dont believe it, he turns into a crybaby. But, this is not always the case. On page 318, MX describes the ghettoes, and how the people within them are preconditioned to think that they must fight to survive. What this suggests is that the white mans tactics had been successful and basically cornered them into believing this is where they be long. This is a similar example to when you keep telling a dog that it is a bad dog. It is eventually going to believe that and not try to change that mindset. 10. When Malcolm X writes that the seeds of racism are so deeply rooted many whites are even unaware of their own racism( MX, 369-370) , he is basically saying that the hate of blacks has been passed on for so long, it has practically become tradition. And with tradition, there is always a wish for change, so blacks were always pushed to become lighter or to act more white. In The Autobiography of Malcolm X, Malcolm X says I remember that I thought that it looked as if my fathers strong black face had been dusted with flour, and I wished they hadnt put on such a lot of it (MX, 11). What MX is saying by this is that he wished that they wouldnt have tried to have his father look lighter because it strayed the thought of his strong, deep ebony father he had etched into his mind. This could be related to how when certain family members die, their kids do not want certain things done to those family members because it takes away from the thought of them they already have in their heads. B ut, sometimes the families will go against embracing their loved ones wishes. For example, on page 8 of The Autobiography of Malcolm X, MX talks about how his ) mom would make him go outside to [l]et the sun shine on [him] so [he] can get some color. (MX, 8). What this suggests is that even though MX was okay with his skin color and the lightness/darkness of it, his mother still pressured him to get MORE color because that was her tradition, or hoe she was raised. This is similar to how President Obama had to think about his traditions and values before he made any decisions, like all presidents have done/ will do. 11. MX is basically suggesting that this mass genocide had welcomed them into the system, and now they needed to be accepted. The best way to be accepted though, in MXs eyes, was to revolt. On page 375 he praises the revolt saying that the negroes so-called revolt is merely an asking to be accepted into the existing system! (MX, 375). This suggests that the black people believe that they have to fight their way to earn recognition and respect within the system, like they grew up believing. This is similar to how many of the young hustlers grew up seeing pimps and hustlers fighting in the streets to survive, learning from them how they need to fight to survive like that too. But, even though they needed to fight to get into the system, there were many placed throughout the U.S that had accepted the black people into their systems. This proved good, but few people saw it. 12. MX is basically calling to arms for the black people to take no shit. He believes, through the massive rallies that were [an] astounding success he had helped raise awareness, and now they needed to do whatever possible to keep that awareness up and continue with pursuing equal rights. Even though there isnt really a rebuttal for this, I feel as if MX had to convince himself of that too, considering when the press came at him after the film The Hate That Hate Produced aired, he had to consult Mr. Muhammad on what to do because he hadnt stayed confident enough in himself OR his followers to believe that they were strong enough to keep earning those rights. This is similar to when he believed that things would not get better for him in jail, so he had to depend on his God for help and guidance. 13. What Malcom X is saying is that the white man has preconditioned the black man for a life of crime and discrimination! To support this, he states on page 248 that many black men were converted to the white mans way of thinking because of money or promises of a better life, so they became black bodies with white heads (MX 248). This means that they would give up anything for a better life, because they knew that the one that they were living at that moment wouldntve gotten them anywhere in life, so they became one with the enemy. Although this was the case, many black people had switched sides due to all of the negativity towards MX and Elijah Muhammad and their teachings due to The Hate That Hate Produced. This is similar to when you are in a car crash and hurt your neck, so if you try to move it or anything, you will just hurt it more because of the problems that are already there. Reflection 1. The most novel claim was that traditions could be pressured onto other people who werent associated with those people to begin with. It was novel because it was true, otherwise racism and discrimination would not have occurred. 2. page 243 and 251 (Questions 9+2) 3. Danyas explaination of how the blacks were preconditioned to live and think a certain way, and Lizs which piggybacked upon that. 4. This is similar to when you are in a car crash and hurt your neck, so if you try to move it or anything, you will just hurt it more because of the problems that are already there. 5. Question two because it provided a lot of discussion. 6. Question twelve because I went so in depth with it because it interested me.

Single Tier Company Income Tax System

1. 0 Introduction Singapore already start adopting a one-tier corporate tax system effect from 1 January 2003. In Malaysia, it is referred as the ‘single tier’ system. The government allowed a six-year transitional period to enable companies with unutilized dividend franking credits to pay franked dividends. From 1 January 2008, all resident companies in Singapore will come under the one-tier system. Meanwhile, other countries including Hong Kong, Ireland and also Malaysia are adopting the one-tier system effective from 1 January 2014.Generally, the Malaysian dividend system has undergone a complete overhaul in 2008 with the objective of providing companies, shareholders and the government with a simple, transparent, efficient and equitable system. With effect from Year Assessment (YA) 2008, a single tier dividend system replaces the tax imputation system on dividend payments to shareholders. All the changes from changing of dividend system have arisen as a result of leg islative amendments introduced by Finance Act 2007 (Act 683) gazette by the government on 28 December 2007.The new corporate tax system is called the single tier system because profits earned by companies are only taxed once and the profits distributed are no longer taxable on shareholders of the company. In this regard, the principal Income Tax Act 1967 is amended by substituting sec 108 with the following: 108. where a dividend is paid or credited by a company to any of its shareholders in the basis period for a year of assessment, the company shall not be entitled to deduct tax from such dividend paid or credited. 1. Chart: The Single Tier Company Income Tax System The company Company shareholders Income from the Income Profits business operations from investments in the company Tax on company profits The profits after taxes Profits after tax Net dividend aid out as dividends 2. 0 Advantages of Single Tier Dividend System First, single tier dividend system allows complete free f low in the channeling of profits of the company to the shareholders as exempt dividends. There are two sources of profits that can be identified. It is including revenue gains (where income tax has been paid) or capital gains from the disposal of long-term investments like, shares, landed property, plant, machinery, and factory by the company. The company may now frank out these profits as dividends to shareholders without any restrictions. From YA 2008, companies are no longer subject to the restrictions of having to maintain a tax imputation balance on dividend payments. Besides that, the second advantage is shareholders who receiving the exempt dividends are not requires to report the dividend income in their tax return. However, they are required to keep records and documents on their exempt dividend income for 7 years to substantiate this income in the event of a tax audit. The third advantages is that the company are no longer have a section 108 (6) charge issues. Single tier s ystem simplifies tax compliance. At the same time, it is enhancing efficiency of tax administrative system because no need keep track of tax paid and also dividends amount distributed to shareholders. However, under the previous dividend imputation system, a company whose payment of dividends is in excess of its tax credit balance [s 108 (6) balance] will end up paying s 108 (6) charge to the tax authorities. It is indicates company has to involve additional expenditure. Similarly, any excess in the dividend payment for capital gains over the tax credit balance will cause the company to incur the s 108 charge. This is no tax efficient to the company and increase the cost of dividend payment. While, the fourth advantage is shareholders whose marginal tax rate is at 27% will not be paying additional tax on dividend. As a comparison to previous imputation system, the income tax payment by company is imputed as tax credit to individual shareholders upon dividend payments, which is YA 2009 , 25% of the dividend income. However, the individual shareholders with the marginal tax rate of 27% will end up paying an additional 2% of tax dividend income received. With effective from YA 2009, an individual is assessed on 27% tax rate if is chargeable income exceeded RM100, 000. Fifth, it simplifies the job of tax authorities. Now, tax authorities does not need to process tax refunds to the shareholders. Thus, the tax authorities are freed up to focus their time and effort in particular the areas, such as tax audit to ensure complete tax compliance by taxpayers in a self-assessment system. The sixth advantage is single tier dividend system is business friendly, economical and tax efficient as companies are no longer requires to maintain tax credit balance for dividend payment.A portion of tax administration duties is now abolished so that human assets may focus on tax efficient work. Besides that, the seventh advantage is from a macro point of view. Nowadays, the single tier ap proach has provided a simple and convenient tax system to the country, companies and shareholders. Human capital assets may be deployed to the productive sectors to ensure that everyone is placed on a competitive edge to take on global challenges. 2. 1 Diagram of Dividends Payment to Shareholders under Imputation System Shareholder| Company Dividend income (gross)Individual75% x gross dividend| Pay net dividend (a)Received net dividend of 75% of gross dividend(b)Assessed as s 4(c) on gross dividend income(c)Tax credit on dividend income (25% of gross dividend) is available as s 110 set on income tax payable| Income tax payable RMFirst RM 100,000 14,[email  protected]% __xx__ __xxx_-S 110 set off (x) (25% x dividend income) _____Net income tax payable xx_ |Debit 25% od dividend income to s 108 account| Tax credit ondividend payments xx| Balance b/f xxYA 2009Income tax [email  protected]% / 25% nilxx| S 108 account| 3. 0 Single Tier Dividend System VS Imputation System The time l ine of implementing imputation system and single tier system is totally different. According to Choong (2009), he stated that a single tier dividend system replaces the tax imputation system on dividend payments to shareholders on 1 January 2008 and on YA 2008 onwards.Meanwhile, transitional rules applies for six-year period to 31 December 2013, during which the two systems will co-exist. From 1 January 2014, all resident companies will come under single tier system. However, imputation system implemented prior to YA 2008 until 31 December 2007 only. There are another comparison perspectives is in terms of income tax paid by the company. Under single tier system, dividend is final tax and the divided paid out to shareholders would be an exempted tax in the hands of shareholders. From here, the mechanism of single tier dividend system is treated as a separate tax entity without any integration with the shareholders. However, under imputation tax system, any excess in the dividend paym ent for capital gain over the tax credit balance will cause the company to incur the s108 charge. Thus, lead not final tax to the company while will increase the cost of dividend payment. Here, imputation system will allow integration between company and shareholders whereby a company in its essence does not pay tax.The actual tax is calculated on the shareholders upon receiving dividend income The next comparison is in the perspective of maintaining tax credit account (s 108 account). Maintaining tax credit account (s 108 account) require single tier dividend with no more than tax credit balance of companies to monitor because the company no longer has s108 charge issues and shareholders with authorities. However, it requires imputation tax system to maintain an imputation account to record income tax paid annually in credit side of the s108 account.A differences also occurs in payment of dividends to shareholders. For payment of dividends to shareholders under single tier divided for tax authorities, there is no more tax credit balance (s108 account) of companies to monitor. Hence, it also no necessity for them to process tax refunds to the shareholders and also no restriction for dividends payment. However, imputation tax system leading 108 account are to be debited the tax portion in s108 account. Continuing is the comparison perspective payment of capital gains as dividends to shareholders.Under single tier system, the company frank out profits such as dividends to shareholders without any restrictions in order to maintaining a tax imputation balance on dividend payments. However, imputation system stated any excess in the dividend payment for capital gain over the tax credit balance will cause the company to incur the s108 charge. Another comparison perspective is dividend income to shareholders. Frequently, shareholders receive the exempt dividend in single tier dividend which is not required to report the dividend income in their tax return. However, th ey have to keep all the record and documents on this exempt dividend income for 7 years to substantiate this income in the event of a tax audit. In contrast, under imputation system, shareholders receiving net dividend would be assessed on gross dividend income under s4(c) while the tax deducted on dividend income would be given a deduction (s 110set off) against their income tax payable in that YA. Next is the comparison of interest expense incurred to acquire shares. Now, the interest expense incurred to acquire shares is disregarded in the single tier dividend system as the dividend income is now tax exempt. In contrast, under imputation system, the dividend income is assesses under s4c of the Act which allowed interest expense to be deducted against gross dividend to arrive at statutory income. Thus, this will result in cash refund as the tax credit on dividend income exceeds tax payable on statutory income of dividend. Lastly is the differences of implementation. The existing co mpany with s 108 credit balances has to apply transitional period from 1 January 2008 until 31 December 2013 according to ss 38-57 of the Finance Act 2007(Act 683/2007).During transitional period, existing companies are slowly phase out from imputation system. Shareholders will not suffer immediately because many listed companies will continue to use imputation system to frank out dividends until 31 December 2013. After a transitional period, a single tier system will fully take place on 1 January 2104. Hence, the imputation system no longer using anymore. At the same time, any unutilized credit balance at s 108 account balance is deemed nil at 31 December. 3. 1 A Summary Table of Comparison between Single Tier Dividend and Imputation Tax System Single tier dividend| Imputation tax system| | (1. 1. 2008 on YA 2008 onwards)| (Prior to YA 2008 till 31. 12. 2007)| (a) Income tax paid by the company| Final tax| Not final tax. Section 108 a/c is deemed nil at 31. 12. 2013| 4. 0 Examples 4. 1 New Company If there are any new companies that are planning to commence their businesses in YA 2008 or subsequent YAs, they will automatically start implementing single tier dividend system. The final tax will be monthly income tax paid by company. From here, there is a non-existing of section 108 account after commencement of new company start from YA 2008. Hence, new company doesn’t have a necessity to maintain section 108 account. Meanwhile, a change has been made on dividend payment by company to shareholders. Now, it is not required to deduct tax from dividend paid or credited to shareholders. However, the company still has to follow one regulation at the same time. It will provide a statement on dividends paid to the tax authorities. The period must be dividend paid during the YA within 7 months after clo sing the accounts. If a failure to do so by company is an offence, liable and conviction to either a) a fine of between RM200 and RM2000 b) imprisonment of not more than 6 months c) or both. The dividends received by shareholders are not entitled to tax computation or tax return forms. It is also tax exempted on dividends received. However, shareholders need to keep their documentations and records. The main purpose is for future tax audit inspections. 4. 2 Existing Company Any existing company in YA 2007 is continuing to maintain section 108 account until the cut off and frozen at 31 December 2007.The existing company has the following circumstances: a) Section 108 balance nil as at 31. 12. 2007. b) Section 108 balance is nil as at any date from 1. 1. 2008 to 31. 12. 2013. c) Section 108 balance is nil due to tax discharge, remittance or refund for tax assessments prior to YA 2008. d) Company exercised an irrevocable option during 1. 1. 2008 to 31. 12. 2013 to self zerolise section 108 balance to nil. The existing company will continue credit the last installment that is December 2007 monthly installment to section 108 account. In YA 2008, section 108 is not applicable anymore. While on 31 December 2007, the credit balance in section 108 is frozen. From this date onwards, credit balance will keep decreasing rather than increasing. It is used to pay cash dividend on ordinary shares until nil balance at 31 December 2013 or earlier than that. On 1 Jan 2014, all companies including existing companies are moved into a single tier dividend system. Companies with different year end have different treatment. A company with 31 December year end will have January 2008 monthly installment, and it is actually payable for December 2007 credited to section 108 account. In contrast, a company with non 31 December year end is allowed to have monthly income tax paid for the YA 2008 until 31 December 2007. On 31 December 2007, section 108 account is frozen and cut off. This accou nt is keep continuing decrease by tax discharge, remittance or refund for tax assessments prior to YA 2008. Meanwhile, the composite assessment arising through tax investigation which is issued after 31 December 2007 shall not added to section 108 account balance. Below is the table showing companies ending with different year end: Table 4. 0 Section 108 account credit balanceCompanies Year End| 31 December| Non 31 December| YA 2007 (31. 12. 2007)| Last installment in Jan 2008| N/A| YA 2008| N/A| Monthly installment till 31. 12. 2007| 31. 12. 2007| Credit balance frozen| Credit balance frozen| 1. 1. 2008 to 31. 12. 2013| To pay cash dividend on ordinary shares till nil balance| To pay cash dividend on ordinary shares till nil balance| 1. 1. 2014: Utilised s 108 balance| Deemed nil| Deemed nil| 5. 0 Conclusion In a overview, single tier dividend system means that the dividend from the companies is an tax exempt dividend to shareholders.Company will no longer have section 108 (6) chan ge issues and also shareholders will not face any additional taxes, even though their marginal tax reach 28%. Even tax authorization on the other end, no longer needs to monitor the tax credit balance section (108 account) of the company and also processing of the tax refunds to the shareholders. They are now able to intensify on tax audits to ensure complete tax compliance with the self assessment system. The single tier dividend system is deemed to be business friendly, economically and tax efficiency for the business environment. It is because it is no longer are a requirement to maintain tax credit balance for dividend payment. A portion of tax administration duties is now abolished so that human assets would be able to focus on tax efficiency duties. The change in the tax structure from imputation to the single tier system are the most significant changes as deemed in Malaysian tax laws. It is clearly a progressive measure, one that accords with international trends. In an inter national setting, the single-tier system or exemption system is seen by commentators as being more neutral than imputation .It achieves simplicity, resulting in efficiency savings for both businesses and tax authorities. It plugs tax leakages since no tax refunds are made under any circumstances. While imputation system discriminates against the non-resident shareholder (who is not granted a tax credit) in favour of the resident shareholder (who is granted a credit), however the single tier system eliminates this, thereby removing a discrimination against regional and multinational companies seeking a holding company locations in Malaysia. The government realized that the imputation system is not very sustainable anymore in we see it in the long run. So, if the tax rates were to be reduced further down in the future, the government needs a perfect system that will allow company's tax to be deemed as a final tax. In this case, the government have certainly had taken a bold step to mov e in the right direction. References 1. Choong. K.. F. (2009). Malaysian Taxation Principles and Practice. Btec Business

Evaluation of the businesses marketing techniques and the effectiveness of the businesses actlvltles. Introduction In this report I am writing about the effectiveness of the marketing technique used by the business of my choice which is Adidas AG. Also I will be using my research to make Judgements. Adidas AG Is a German sports clothing manufacturer and parent company of the Adidas Group, which consists of the Reebok sportswear company, TaylorMade-Adldas golf company (Including Ashworth), and Rockport.Adidas uses brand awareness to promote there company and Its products, Ilke football boots. They are also the kit provider, to the German national football team; Adidas also sponsors the Argentine, Japanese, Mexican, Scottish, Spanish and Colombian national football teams, among others. Adidas is very active at sponsoring top football clubs in Germany such as Bayern Munich, Schalke, Hamburg, Bayer Leverkusen, and VfL Wolfsburg and top football clubs worldwide such as R. S. C. Anderlecht , Rapid Vienna, Real Madrid C. F. , AC Milan, Dynamo Kyiv, Chelsea, Lyon,AFC Ajax, Galatasaray, Benfica, Fenerbah#, Panathinaikos, Bolton Wanderers and many others. As they use brand awareness they will always be a well-known company because a lot of people watch football and football Is an International sport so when big football clubs like Real Madrid and Chelsea wear there kits with Adidas sponsoring the clubs, all the clubs fans will always want to check who Adidas is as a company, and Adidas will make money from the football clubs as they will receive a lot of customers who like football and sports.Adidas diversified into the accessory market after doing well in the sports apparel arket, as they did this they produced, deodorants, perfumes, aftershaves, lotions, watches, eye-wear, and bags. Going into the accessory market meant that they could sell their products to a wider range of people, Including older people. Essential accessory products Ilke deodorants would appeal to eve rybody as everyone would want to smell nice, and every accessory product I named Is essential so Adidas would be making a lot of money if people bought their products.I Analysls 0T A Strengths: In many events they are the biggest sponsor, they have a strong anagement team, there brand recognition and reputation is really big, they have diversity and variety in products offered on their websites, they have strong control over their own distribution channel, they don't have any bad reputation like child labor or environmental pollution and in the Football industry, they have a stronghold, as they are famous. Weaknesses: they have high prices in some products, so this could turn people who don't have money to spend to other sports companies. There E-commerce is limited to USA as they are a European Company, this could be a big loss but, Reebok the ompany they also own is famous there so they could make a lot of money even if they want Adidas in USA. The direct sale to consumers is creat ing conflicts with its own resellers and online customer service not â€Å"helpful† or easy to find, this could put a lot of people annoyed with their company and this could cause people to go and look at other sports companies.Opportunities: They have collaborated with other online retailers to offer Adidas products, and this could make them money and there products could be more known. They have collaborated with other online retailers to offer Adidas products; his could be a big advantage as they will want to make a lot of money. The possibility of outsourcing the web development and e-commerce to a third party developer is high. Threats: With Nike's strong reputation in the footwear and apparel industry they could lose out on a lot of money. The negative image created by their sponsored athletes (i. e. Kobe Bryant and his sexual assault case), could harm their image as a good company. All the marketing techniques I have named have been very effective for Adidas as they use d their successful company name to get sponsors to promote their products nd wear their products, and this was where they used the technique called brand awareness. They also used their famous name to diversify into the accessories market; this had the opportunity to get them a lot of customers as they made essential products like deodorant. The SWOT Analysis showed that they had different strengths like there stronghold on the Football Industry, but they have weaknesses like the limited services in the USA, and the USA is a big sporting country. They have a lot of opportunities to develop there company, but there is a lot f threats like the negative image of one of their most famous sponsors called Kobe Bryant having a sexual assault case against him. Conclusion In tnls report I learnt tnat companles use sports cluDs ana players to promote tnelr company, but the players that they sponsor could make the company sponsoring look bad. But Adidas the company I wrote about is a big company that is struggling to get really famous in the USA, and they have stiff competition from Nike, which is an American company, but they are big in Europe and they are the biggest sports company in Europe.
